Licensed expansion
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of RTA, reported that the number of licensed commercial transport companies jumped from 12,100 in 2024 to 16,917 in 2025. He said this expansion reflects strong investor confidence and underscores Dubai’s position as a global hub for transport and logistics.
“The growth is driven by accelerated digital transformation, wider deployment of smart solutions, rising demand for app-based delivery services, and expansion in logistics and vehicle rental activities,” Al Tayer explained.
Digital innovation
The sector’s momentum is further supported by strategic initiatives, including RTA’s launch of the “Logisty” digital platform for logistics operations. The platform has gained significant market uptake and recently received the ideasUK Idea of the Year 2025 – Innovation Award.
RTA also introduced a regulatory framework for autonomous heavy vehicles, strengthening Dubai’s competitiveness in advanced transport technologies.
Sustainability initiatives
As part of its sustainability agenda, RTA partnered with a specialised company to establish battery-swapping stations for delivery bikes, supporting low-emission mobility. Dedicated rest areas for delivery drivers were also developed to enhance safety and improve working conditions.
Al Tayer emphasised that the commercial transport sector not only contributes more than Dh 8.4 billion annually but also supports Dubai’s Economic Agenda (D33) by enhancing supply chain efficiency, attracting investment, and generating social and environmental benefits. He noted that continued innovation, public-private integration, and adoption of smart solutions will propel the sector to new levels in the coming years.
